Derived from the harpsichord, the earliest known piano was built in 1709 by Bartolomeo Cristofori, a harpsichord maker from Florence, Italy, who is generally noted to be the creator of the piano.
It’s interesting to note that the combined tension of the strings on a concert grand piano is about 30 tons. Wow!
